What’s So Great About Mindfulness? A 4-week online introductory course to the practice of mindfulness meditation
Thursday, 3 different 4-week sessions available (see below for details) at Zoom
Have you ever been angry only to regret your reaction later?
Have you ever been told, “Pay attention!” but were never taught how?
Tired of being yanked around by thoughts about work, your kids, your health, the state of the world?
You’ve heard the word “Mindfulness” but what does it really mean? This four-week interactive course will teach you exactly what mindfulness is (and what it is NOT!). You will learn how to practice awareness and self-compassion, how you can be in relationship with your thoughts, and how you can respond in a healthier way to the things in your life that you can’t control. You will also learn how to easily fit mindfulness into a busy and demanding schedule, as well as other practical tools for easing your nervous system and changing your stress response.
Facilitator: Annette Nelms
Annette’s bio: Nothing either in her work as a corporate trainer or in her studies for a master’s degree prepared Annette for the excitement and challenges she would experience as a Residential Food & Clothing Manager. Commonly known as a Stay-at-Home Parent, when her boys were young, she found herself getting angry over little things or for no apparent reason. Ashamed for having temper tantrums suitable to a three-year old, she turned to mindfulness as a more appropriate way of responding. In 2016 she began a daily mindfulness practice which helped her cope with parenting challenges. She went on to receive her training through Mindful Schools and is a certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher through the Awareness Training Institute and the Greater Good Science Center at the University of California. Owner of Mindful Matters, LLC, Annette lives in Virginia with her husband and teenage sons.

Each week you will learn a specific mind-body technique that you can immediately integrate into your daily routine that help bring you back to a sense of peace and calm.
